Dr. Michael Stefan graduated from New York University in 1981, having double majored in both medical science and art history. Four years later, he received his doctorate from the Medical College of Pennsylvania. From there he was fellowship trained in aesthetic surgery and plastic surgery of the breast, completing his education at Georgetown University.
Since then, Dr. Stefan has contributed numerous articles to medical journals. He has co-authored two book chapters on the subject of aesthetic, plastic and reconstructive breast surgery, and is regularly invited to lecture on plastic and reconstructive cancer surgery as well as cosmetic procedures. Dr. Stefan has received many awards and accolades. Most recently, he was chosen by The Consumer's Research Council of America for inclusion in their Guide to America's Top Surgeon's 2004-2005. He has been awarded "Best Plastic Surgeon" by the readers of Main Line Life Newspaper for the years 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005. And he has received "Top Plastic Surgeon" for 2001 by Physician Poll from Main Line Today Magazine . His expertise has been cited in various newspaper articles and he has been a guest on talk shows, radio and television concerning aesthetic plastic and reconstructive surgery, as well as cancer treatment and prevention. Dr. Stefans approach to aesthetic plastic surgery is as unique as his background in both art and medicine. His training and passion for the fine arts served to hone his aesthetic sense, apparent in his work. Dr. Stefan is routinely singled out for the natural results and remarkable enhancement of his patients. He holds board certification from both The American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery . He is an esteemed member of The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery , The American Society of Plastic Surgeons and The American Society of Skin Care Specialists. He is proudly affiliated with Chester County Hospital , Paoli Memorial Hospital and Bryn Mawr Hospital . Dr. Stefan believes his medical philosophy is best summarized by Hippocrates, 400 B.C.: "Wherever the art of medicine is respected, there is also respect for humanity."
